About Us

Chucks' love for boating began in 1977 when he spent the summer living on his father's house boat. At 14 he went to work at Lefty's Coho Landing, Portage Marina, pumping gas, building docks, doing oil changes and tune ups. Still as a young man, he worked for Jim Lincoln at Qwik-Step Marine, also in Portage IN. There he learned mechanical maintenance. At 19, Chuck moved to Huntington Beach, California, and worked at DMG Boats. After that, Kens Boat Center, mentoring under Steve Field and Dave Lotze. While still in California, Chuck branched off and founded CMS Marine in November of 1987. He spent a total of 8 years in CA before returning home to Portage Indiana. In 1991 he partnered back up with Qwik-Step, while still operating CMS Marine. Eventually moving his shop to the river at the marina, off Hwy 249, he opened up CMS Marine, Inc. and started renting boats out in 1996. Since then Chuck has devoted his life to his 4 beautiful children and the boaters of southern Lake Michigan.
